The current series of Costa Rican colon banknotes in circulation is the 'F' series which was introduced by the Central Bank of Costa Rica in 2011. Each banknote features distinct designs that showcase the Costa Rica's rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and notable figures. For instance, the ₡1000 note depicts the image of the national hero, Carmen Lyra, a renowned Costa Rican writer. The ₡5000 note showcases the Guayabo National Monument, an archaeological site and symbol of Costa Rica's indigenous heritage.
